Gwendydd Research is a software consulting company specializing in recommender systems. The company focuses on developing product and media recommendations that not only drive engagement but also help users discover options that align with their true interests and needs.
Gwendydd Research approached OtherWisz Creative to develop a visual identity that would represent their business online. Named after a figure from Welsh literature and mythology—often described as a faerie, magician, or seer—the project offered a unique and engaging design opportunity.

During our initial meeting, the OtherWisz team explored how recommender systems software impacts daily life, from curated playlists on streaming services to product suggestions in online stores. Inspired by the client’s name and tagline, ‘Practical magic for recommendations & relevance,’ we also drew from the fantasy world of wizards and witches.
We developed several logo concepts based on this theme. Through close collaboration and detailed client feedback, we finalized a logo featuring a set of potion bottles on a shelf. We selected a typeface that complemented the hand-drawn elements and used a rich color palette to bring the Gwendydd brand to life. The two-sided business card showcased the bold, colorful logo, letting it take center stage to create a magical first impression.
Our design process produced a wide array of illustrated elements—stars and moons, candles, magic wands, spell books, and cauldrons—that complemented the logo and their vision, and gave us the visual tools to create additional graphics and icons for their business cards, website, and email newsletter.
With an audience of programmers and software developers, the website needed both a dark palette and a traditional light version, since they typically use the dark palette more to reduce eye strain in low-light environments. So, the website graphics, headline styles, and other elements needed to translate well in both environments.
