Annual Report design for WNY healthcare network highlights accomplishments & initiatives
Kaleida Health, a large non-profit healthcare network in operation since 1998, manages five hospitals in the Buffalo-Niagara Falls metropolitan area. Kaleida’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Office reached out to OtherWisz Creative looking to commission an eye-catching and impactful 2024 Annual Report to effectively communicate the department’s mission while celebrating its achievements and successful initiatives over the past year.

Our process began by meeting with Kaleida’s DEI and Creative teams, to outline project goals, determine specs, and review their corporate branding and past reports. After determining the overall production timeline, we nailed down the page count and preliminary content outline to set a solid foundation before moving forward. Two unique design concepts in different sizes and formats — square versus landscape — were presented to the client, consisting of a set of cover designs, chapter breaks, and basic page layouts for content with examples of infographics and charts.
Once the client selected the custom 8” square design, our team jumped into building 48 pages of layouts using the concept as a guide. Designers selected images from hundreds of supplied photos, and assessed data provided by the Kaleida DEI department to prepare infographics and icons that would match the visual style of the report.
Working with an established brand is something our team is well-versed in. For this project, we addressed several levels of Kaleida’s brand architecture: one for Kaleida Health corporate, one for the DEI Office, and four individual program groups directed by it — each with its own logo and color scheme. Unifying a variety of brand styles into a single, cohesive design was a welcome challenge for the team.
Including several rounds of review, our timeline was met through frequent communication with the client and pre-production consultation with our selected printer. To maintain print integrity, we attended several on-site press checks to guarantee color accuracy throughout the booklet. The final books were perfect bound and the cover was treated with a soft-touch varnish coating.
Following the success of this project, we were brought on to design & develop Kaleida Health’s 2025 Nursing Report. These books, and an accompanied postcard, were designed, developed, proofed, printed, bound and delivered to (12) different locations in-time for this year’s Nurses Week. It was a tight deadline that was handled by our experienced project management team.
Both of these books show us how Annual Reports — sometimes thought of as boring, filled with facts and figures — can have a lively design, leaving a lasting impression.
